Empleando los sentidos para regular emociones. Revisión bibliográfica sobre “comfort room” en salud mental.

Resumen:

Objetivo: El objetivo principal de esta revisión fue examinar la evidencia científica publicada hasta la fecha sobre la implementación de salas sensoriales/confort en unidades psiquiátricas.

Método: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica en las bases de datos Pubmed, CINAHL, CUIDEN, Scopus y EMBASE empleando la siguiente estrategia de búsqueda: (relaxation room OR sensory room OR comfort room) AND (mental health OR mental illness OR psychiatr*). Finalmente, se incluyeron un total de 15 artículos.

Resultados: Los principales objetivos de las salas sensoriales son: proporcionar un ambiente terapéutico de apoyo, mejorar la calidad de la experiencia dentro del ambiente de la sala y apoyar a las personas a la regulación emocional durante períodos de angustia y crisis. Algunos de los aspectos positivos del uso de estas salas son el aumento del bienestar general de los usuarios/as y la reducción de las medidas coercitivas ante un episodio de agitación.

Conclusiones: Aunque el uso de las salas sensoriales en psiquiatría es algo novedoso y necesita más investigación sobre su efectividad, la escasa literatura muestra que las “salas de confort” son una herramienta eficaz para fomentar la independencia de la gran mayoría de los usuarios/as en su regulación emocional.
